The last month has been very busy with lots of our boats racing in the Solent, which began at Lymington with Itchenor team of Lass in 2nd place and Xcitation in 4th place.
The Central Solent Championships clashed with Lymington but Itchenor was represented by Athena in first place and Princess Jalina in 4th place.
Then onto the Telegraph Bowl at Cowes. Itchenor did very well again – Xcitation first, Athena second, Lass 4th, Princess Jalina 6th and Quixotic coming 10th in a 17 boat fleet.
Without a break came Classic Cowes Week. Itchenor produced 13 boats making us the largest division. After a difficult week and light winds Lass finally won just holding off last year’s winner,
A week later and onto Cowes week where 11 Itchenor boats competed. Lass won the Captains Cup for a record 6th consecutive year. Well done to John Tremlett, Ian Andrews and Richard Bullock who sailed superbly all week. We will have the pleasure of seeing Lass on the front and back of the 2019 Class Association Handbook.
Congratulations must also go to X174 Foxglove 3rd, X26 Catherine 4th, X50 Xcitation 6th, X91 Astralita 9th, and X55 Falconet 12th in a fleet of 49 boats sailing in very difficult conditions.
The Itchenor Division has again retained the coveted Phillipson Challenge Shield for the top XOD Division. That makes it 8 consecutive years. The scores are calculated each day by taking the results of the four best boats from each division, and it is worth pointing out that no less than eight of our boats contributed. We certainly have strength in depth.
There was even one day when our scoring boats beat Lass. So very well done to the happy Itchenor team of Lass X80, Foxglove X174, Catherine X26, Astralita X91, Falconet X55, Princess Jalina X188, Xcitation X50, and Phoenix X186 who have all contributed to winning the Shield.
